About the artist

Born: James F Jones, Bristol, England, 1976

My Work:

As an Artist I am fascinated by peoples sense of self, their beliefs and the systems within the human mind/body that are involved in creating these experiences.

My work is centred around our ever changing notion of the self. Explored as part of this theme are the interconnected ideas of unity, opposites, balance, boundaries, the internal and external, consciousness and the organic.

My recent sculptural works all involve the use of “zeros” and “ones”. The idea behind the use of this as a language to create a variety of different forms comes from the ideas and beliefs of the german philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Leibniz.

Leibniz believed that the laws of human thought and reasoning (or logic) could be described as a mathematical system i.e. the binary system he created which is used today in all modern computing.

Leibniz also believed that the “one” represented God and the “zero’ the void. His beliefs were strengthened when he discovered the chinese book “I Ching” (book of changes)- used for predicting the future, which depicts the universe as a set of mutually dependent dualities such as on-off, male-female, all-nothing.

Many of the works on this site are available for sale as well as graphic design, web design and video/editing services.
If you require information on pricing and availability for commissioned art works please contact me.
